Kelly

Kelly, who was 16 while Raise was being written, lives on her family’s sheep farm in suburban Castro Valley, California. She has been raising and training lambs competitively since she was nine, and someday she hopes to be a large-animal veterinarian. Photo by Rafael Roy.

Kelly braces her lamb. Before shows, Kelly teaches her lambs the brace position, which judges require in order to see the animals' muscle and bone structure. Photo by Rafael Roy.

When her lambs are still very small, Kelly starts training them simply by giving them lots of attention in the barn. Photo by Rafael Roy.
